Abstract

The purpose of the work is to determine the reasons that prompted K. S. Stanislavsky to put forward the requirement for a verbal definition of the concept of “the overtask”. The possibility of identifying certain functions that the author of the system assigned precisely to the process of verbal definition of the most important task was used. The purpose of the work is to clarify at what stage of creative searches the requirement for a verbal definition of the overtask should be implemented. The methodology of this study is based on the system-analytical method, which makes it possible to understand the reasons for K. S. Stanislavsky’s appeal to the verbal definition of the overtask. Using the comparative method of textual analysis, as well as relying on the comparison of statements on the object of study of different masters of directing, the authors determined the functions that Stanislavsky assigned to the process of verbal definition of the overtask. The cornerstone of the system of K. S. Stanislavsky is the doctrine of the overtask, however, like his “system” as a whole, the doctrine of the overtask has not received its finalized edition. There is no complete literary presentation of the system. This circumstance could not but affect the fact that when referring to the doctrine of the overtask, a number of questions arise that remain unanswered for a long time. The novelty of the study lies in the fact that for the first time an attempt was made to determine the conceptual definitions and structurization of the functions that the author of the system assigned to the process of verbal definition of the overtask. The conclusions are that the main reasons for the emergence of the requirement to define the concept of “overtask” is the collective nature of the theater, the ability of the language to form the content of the overtask, which becomes the main means of organizing creative work. The time for the implementation of the requirement for a verbal definition of the most important task is determined by the period of professional knowledge of the playwright’s work, its content and form.
